Spacing Outside Together

A collaborative artwork from the Melrose School for Spacing Out(side)

Located on the bike path off Eldred Avenue

Spacing Outside Together is a collaborative artwork conceived by first grader Brooke Montoya from the Melrose School, a Pre-K through 4th Grade school in Jamestown, RI. The temporary installation will be displayed on the bike path off Eldred Avenue from July to October as part of the outdoor exhibition Spacing Out(side) by the Jamestown Arts Center.

Under the guidance of their art teacher Erica Connolly, each of the 265 art students at the Melrose School drew an artwork proposal in response to a public call for art for the Spacing Out(side) exhibition. The students then voted on one to represent the school. Brooke's proposal was selected from an applicant pool from a national request for proposals by a volunteer committee consisting of Jamestown residents, members of the art community, and representatives of the JAC.

From July 2 - July 11, see each of the 265 artwork proposals by the students at the Melrose School on display at the community mural wall at the JAC. The Community Mural Wall is located outside, behind the JAC on Douglas Street.
