The rapid melt of Arctic sea ice — as this captivating film demonstrates so clearly — has become a driving force in the remaking of our planet's climate. Few stories could be more important to understand

Bill McKibben, author The End of Nature

Beneath the Polar Sun offers a window into the world of Arctic change.  The documentary premiered at the Rhode Island International Film Festival (receiving the “Green Planet Award”), and was co-presented by the Carnegie Institution for Science at the DC Environmental Film Festival (DCEFF).

Beneath the Polar Sun is an exposé on the role of Arctic albedo in global climate, a role that is increasingly at-risk. The film plants the seed that our Earth has a "cooling system”, and that there are things we need to do to keep that system safe.

SYNOPSIS:

Not far from the North Pole, a research team sets out to measure the world’s largest and oldest sea ice floes. Steve is an expedition leader who has led projects in the High Arctic for 40 years. Chris is a polar oceanographer who studies ice floes from a Harvard lab. They know the data, but nothing has prepared them for the truth on the ground. Caught in a frozen maelstrom, something has to give.
