For children, ephemeral art, sometimes called “land art” is an extension of our natural instincts to play and experiment with whatever is at our fingertips. We will get outside, connect with nature, touch and feel and explore the natural canvas of textures, colors, and objects that surround us. Land art can be created in a small garden, on the beach, in the branches of a tree, even on water! We can use leaves, shells, bark, pebbles, twigs, acorns, seeds, berries – like pencil or paint on paper, natural objects can provide color, contrast, texture, expression, and intrigue. And, yes, we will eat some ice cream, too! Please wear appropriate clothing, as there is potential for spills and stains.
Campers should bring a snack and water bottle each day.
PLEASE NOTE: Sticks and Stones and Ice Cream Cones Camp meets on Thursday, 7/6 and Friday, 7/7 at Watson Farm in Jamestown from 12pm – 3pm. Those that register for full day camp this week (Comics For Kids in the morning and Sticks and Stones in the afternoon) must be able to provide their own transportation from the JAC to Watson Farm on Thursday and Friday for 12pm. The Jamestown Arts Center cannot provide transportation. Carpooling is encouraged! JAC Arts Education Coordinator Seamus Hames will assist in organizing carpools.
