Who is Dervla Murphy? (64 min.) Directed by Garret Daly. Documentary. The extraordinary life the Irish maverick Dervla Murphy, who has become Ireland’s foremost and most prolific travel writer. Defying convention on numerous fronts, Dervla traveled the world as a single woman alone in far off lands and became a single mother by choice in 1960s Ireland. She struck out on her own to bicycle around India culminating in her first book in 1965: Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle and has never stopped traveling or writing. The hardships of her youth supplied her with imperviousness to cold and discomfort that has served her well on her journeys around the world and supplied her with the ability to overcome life-threatening situations.
